Graham Sinclair Graham Sinclair is a sustainable investment strategist, ESG investment architect and global project leader. He advises institutional investors on the integration of sustainability (environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG)) factors into investment policy and practice. The ongoing research and advisory engagements of his eponymous investment advisory boutique covers emerging and frontier markets, especially Africa. Since 2006 Sinclair & Company has helped asset owners, investment managers, high net worth investors and international organizations interpret the risks and opportunities of the sustainability meta-theme within the dynamics of long term investing. Graham has worked in Africa, Europe and North America on projects modeling investment architecture integrating environmental, social and governance factors across asset classes, and developing investor networks in emerging markets for international organizations while a consultant for the UN.

Recent consulting engagements include the first-ever multi-country, multi-asset class landscape study of sustainable investment in sub-Saharan Africa for the IFC, developing a sustainability index architecture for a Middle Eastern emerging market country, a global sector-specific ESG index proposition for an international organization, mapping ESG architecture for an emerging markets infrastructure fund, innovative financing mechanisms for a Geneva-based international organization funded by the Gates Foundation, ESG integration for a Wall Street money manager with over USD 1 trillion in global assets under management, leading the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) in Emerging Markets Project for UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative, and advising the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) on investor-company interaction. Through 2002 Graham worked in southern Africa in pensions consulting and investment management for Alexander Forbes Consultants & Actuaries, Old Mutual Employee Benefits, and Nedcor Investment Bank International, culminating as head of strategic marketing for SEI Investments in Johannesburg. Before launching Sinclair & Company in 2006 in the USA, Graham was Product Manager at KLD Research & Analytics in Boston covering sustainable investment research and managing the Business Ethics 100 index.

Graham earned his MBA in the USA on scholarship at Villanova University in 2004, conducting research into SRI and co-managing the Arnone-Lerer SRI Fund, an active US equity portfolio. His consulting work included an engagement on prestige prize mechanisms and venture philanthropy for the John Templeton Foundation in Philadelphia. He holds a B.Com from the University of Natal and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the Howard College School of Law. He is an alum of the inaugural WWF One Planet Leaders program for sustainable development in Switzerland in 2007/8 and was selected to the 2009 Tallberg Forum New Leaders Programme in Sweden. He is a Senior Fellow of the Environmental Leadership Program USA since 2004, and a professional contributor to the CSR Initiative of the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government.

Graham holds a variety of investment and retirement fund industry-specific certifications and in 1997 he was one of the youngest-ever dual fellows of ILPA. He is a past steering committee member of Sustainability Investment Research Analyst Network (SIRAN), member of the Network for Sustainable Financial Markets, the Investment Analysts Society of South Africa since 1999 and in 2009 was invited onto the Responsible Investment sub-committee of the Association for Savings & Investment South Africa (ASISA). Graham was recognized in 2008 as Distinguished Member of Net Impact, an international MBA network based in San Francisco, and is a past professional chapter leader in Boston. Graham is currently leading the project team for the African Sustainability Investment Forum (AfricaSIF).

Graham is a lecturer at business schools in the USA and Université de Genève in Switzerland. He resides in Woodstock, Vermont USA and Cape Town, South Africa, enjoying cycling, sailing and fine chocolate.
